🎥 Why 1 million people applied to Kai Cenat's Streamer University
The inevitable march of the livestreaming industry
At PWR House, we love seeing the creator economy grow and new types of businesses emerge. For example, livestreaming is hitting even bigger levels of popularity in the culture.
Kai Cenat is one of the world's biggest streamers, with 17.7 Million followers on Twitch. On May 22, he hosted a free, three-day program called Streamer University for up and coming streamers to learn from Kai and his team.
Over 1 Million people applied to attend and just over 100 were picked as students, about a 0.01% acceptance rate. Livestreams from Streamer University hit 27 Million hours of watch time and 719,000 peak concurrent viewers.
From the outside, some people might see Streamer University as just a silly content idea, but if you watch classes from Streamer University, you'll find serious courses that can teach you a lot about content, streaming, and the business of being a creator.
In a way that's authentic to him, Kai Cenat is thinking like an actual business and an industry thought leader.
While it's unclear whether Kai will continue Streamer University, there's definitely commercial interest. Kai turned down offers from Netflix and Prime Video to host Streamer University and covered all of the costs himself.
Can you imagine a Streamer University that's specifically geared towards brands?
Livestreaming is clearly a growing cultural and content force, but it's still difficult for many traditional brands to grapple with the concept. I'm sure big brands would benefit from having someone teach them what livestreaming is, what it tells us about culture, and how brands can learn from this.
I don't think many brands have cracked the the right approach to working with livestreams, but they should be aware that livestreamers themselves are powerful creators with increasing cultural influence.
Out the "students" who attended Streamer University, there will be a large number of them who will go on to build strategic partnerships with brands and help their businesses grow.
At PWR House, we are helping build these types of partnerships, relationships, and collaborations because we believe streamers--like many other types of content creators--can truly be jet fuel for your go-to-market strategy.
